Brand

What a brand identity includes (and why a logo is not enough)

Published 2026-10-11 · 4 min read · By the Lumzap team Lumzap

When someone says "I need a brand", they often mean "I need a logo". The logo is the most visible part, but it is only one piece of a broader system.

The components of an identity

  • Positioning: what you offer, to whom and why they would choose you.
  • Logo and variants: primary, light, dark and symbol.
  • Colours and typography: a limited, legible palette.
  • Tone of voice: how you sound when you write.
  • Usage rules: what to do and what to avoid.

When it is worth investing in one

If every post or document looks different, if you struggle to explain what you do in one sentence, or if you are about to launch a new website, sorting out the identity first saves rework later.

A well-made identity does not guarantee sales, but it makes every future piece easier to create and more consistent.
